Britney
She is a wife and mother of two. One son is autistic, and she does all the research for him and feeds him a gluten free, dairy free diet which has helped him tremendously. She goes above and beyond where most people would not continue to pursue every avenue to make their lives healthy and better. She just had her 35th birthday! She is also kind, loving and a good wife and friend.
Annette
I am deserving of the makeover because I am a caring, loving person who loves dogs and rescued dogs that I have found as well as dogs that friends have decided they no longer want. In May 2016, I took in a Schnoodle who was running around our neighborhood with a big collar around his neck and a wire attached to the collar. He was emaciated, matted and had fleas. I rushed him to our vet and had him treated. I tried to find his owner to no avail, so we decided to keep him. In May 2018, I found another dog who narrowly escaped getting hit by a car. We took him to the vet to check for a microchip and the microchip company notified his owner and gave the owner my information and the owner never contacted me. Microchip company said owner no longer wanted the dog. My husband and I had had the dog a month, so we decided to keep. Recently took in chihuahua that was being fostered by a friend. Her husband wanted the dog gone because he was nipping, and Clay Animal Shelter said they would put him down so I volunteered to take him. He is unadoptable but he is good with my husband and I and the other dogs. In addition, my best friend and her 2 girls who all live in New York, adopted a beagle and were not ready for a dog and decided to put her back in shelter, so I said we would take the dog. We drove all the way up to Shrub Oak, NY in December 2016 to get the dog. My husband and I now have 6 dogs!
I have gone through some rough times lately both financially and physically. I worked at the same company for 32 years and was offered a severance package along with other old timers. We were told that if I did not take it, could be let go with no severance pay. I took it and could not find a job so easily because I was over 50 and at the same job for so long. My husband and I were living in his parent’s old house in Yonkers, NY and they lived in New Jersey. The house was supposed to be left to my husband in the will. When his father passed away, his sister decided that his mother should sell the house. His sister got his mother to give her power of attorney because she had macular degeneration, and sister basically evicted us. We could not afford to live anywhere in Westchester County, so we decided to move to Jacksonville, closer to my mother and sister who live in the Fort Lauderdale area. I miss all my friends in New York.
I have severe degenerative disc disease and am in constant pain. On December 11, I have to have spinal fusion surgery. This will be the 3rd back surgery I have had. I also have chronic pain in my left knee and shoulder.
I don't spend much on myself. Despite having health insurance, I still have to pay the deductible, co-pays, and 20% of all medical costs after the deductible is met. Also, veterinary bills and food are extremely expensive for the animals I have.
I want this makeover to feel better about myself. I will be able to enjoy some time to myself and not think about the pain as well as the stress I am under.
Eileen
Hi! My most important roles in life are as a wife and a mom. I also work 2 part time jobs, I’m on a couple of Boards, and I chaperone Chorus and Musical Theatre events for the St. Johns County Center for the Arts whenever possible.
So, here’s my story: I’m the youngest of three girls and our parents were Holocaust survivors. Unfortunately, my dad died when I was 11 and my mom when I was 18. Fast forward 19 years (yes, I was pretty much lost & a mess during that time) to 1997 when I married Joe. We have 2 adopted daughters. My oldest just turned 18 and her sister will be 17 in January. I’m Jewish, I married a Priest, and we have 2 mixed race daughters. Yes, I do believe God has a sense of humor!
In March of this year I made a major change. I firmly believe that if I had not my life wouldn’t have lasted much longer. Since then I’ve lost 30 lbs. and lots of inches. I feel better than I have in years. I still have a ways to go, but I know I will get there. I’ve come to realize how much I’ve neglected myself and that’s why I’m entering this contest. I put everyone else first, and now I’m taking care of me, too!
Jana
I have always looked up to my sister Jana and envied her since I was a child. Even though we did not always get along, she has always been one of my best friends. She grew up to have a very successful but often thankless and stressful career in Education and Counseling. She has raised 2 beautiful, strong, and intelligent young women, virtually on her own. We were devastated when our mother passed away from cancer in 2008. Since this was long before my daughter was born, Jana has been a combo sister-BFF-aunt-godmother-grandmother figure for her and for me. She advises me, attends all my daughter’s school and dance functions, and helps get her all of the supplies and clothing she needs when I am struggling. We do as many family activities as possible together, even if it’s just meeting for lunch or coffee to vent about our daily lives. We support each other emotionally and maintain a strong bond as we know our mother would have wanted. We have both been through rough times and we got through them together, so I feel that Jana deserves the ultimate makeover to be as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside.
Justine
My name is Justine Marason I’m an only parent Which means I am mommy and daddy, due to my husband’s passing 10 years ago he left me with a 2 1/2 and a three-year-old which I am currently raising those of you that have 12 year old’s and 14 year old’s are aware of my struggle yet they are alive and still breathing and going to school. As for myself, I am currently working as a nurse. I work with hospice patients. I am also a member of a wonderful church. We have great members as well as awesome pastor and wife. In my spare time I help my friends and raise honey bees. I also have four chickens. We also have two dogs. It is Quite a challenge maintaining the house the lawn, car and scheduling appointments. Did I mention I have a child that has braces and not really easy maintaining the brackets in the wires? Who’s gone through that?
As I go through my day, I thank God for my wonderful family my bosses my church family my neighbors they have all been big blessings to me. I recently had shoulder surgery and they brought me meals took me from to and from doctors’ appointments and help me get my children to and from their appointments. They have also brought me meals and clean my house. Yes, I have had moments where I just want to cry also had moments where I wanted to scream and get mad about things I can’t control. I think everybody does.
Kaylee
My name is Kaylee Martínez, I’m 30 years old, I’m a mom of 3 Boys, I’ve been married for 10 years, and I hardly ever take time to do anything for myself! So, this would be AMAZING to win. I pretty much go to work and take care of my kids. I would love to have a day all about me!
Rebeca
My name is Rebeca Rodriguez. I am the mother of two wonderful boys who are 5 and 3 years old and a step-mom to a loving 8 year boy, all of which are very full of energy. I am very fortunate to have a very caring and helpful husband who enjoys doing dishes because I hate doing dishes. :) My husband and I both work full time so our house can get very busy between work and the kids. We moved to Jacksonville from Puerto Rico 5 years ago and have slowly created a network of friends and support group since we don't have any family in the area. My greatest joy in spending time with my family but I wish I could find some extra time to treat myself and reenergize so that I can give my best self to my family.
