This contest could not have happened at a better time! Boy, do I have a story to tell!! I am a mess and need the biggest makeover and relation ever. My daughter Christina is currently on the max amount of life support at the Mayo clinic. Her story aired on First Coast News last night. I am living a nightmare right now, and when I saw myself on the news I wanted to cry even more, but I think I'm out of tears. I was going to nominate my other daughter who is 18, and has been dealing with this all so well. She’s on the Autism Spectrum and I am amazed how she is dealing, because so much energy is spent on her sister, I'm doing my best to make sure she is not neglected at this time. Chrissy has her own Facebook page that has been set up to follow her story and offer support and encouragement. https://www.facebook.com/groups/TeamChristinaVanDerVelden/
My name is Alexandria Preston. I am a small business owner, mom, fiancé, blogger, and pro-bono creative marketing consultant for North Florida artisans/makers. I am also the creator of @Jaxmarketplace, an online Instagram blog that freely advertises all of North Florida’s makers and artists. My small business, Rosie’s Handmade Jax, specializes in Lavender Aromatherapy Rice Hot Packs and Migraine Relief Eye Masks. They are meant to combat pain naturally and give chronic sufferers another option instead of heavy medications.
A store that my product was featured in suddenly closed and over 20 local entrepreneurs, including myself, were left without a way to advertise our products. I realized that there needed to be an outlet for us to showcase our art instead of hoping to be featured by local outlets. Within 4 months, I have gained 1440 followers by featuring various artists of different mediums and started to throw my own market events. The first @Jaxmarketplace event, Winterfest, was held on December 12th and benefited Little Friends Preschool at Hendricks Ave Baptist Church. I worked extremely hard to plan, decorate, and execute that event and also secured over $800 worth of merchandise/experiences to raffle off in a giant basket. Because of that, @Jaxmarketplace raised over $500 and donated it all to the preschool.
My main focus in both of my businesses is to help people and encourage them to continue doing what they love. My girls, Leah (8) and Rose (1 •••,) have empowered and inspired every movement I’ve made in the last few years to build an empire (but really community) that I can one day pass down to them. I’m also extremely grateful for a loving fiancé who has picked me up in the rough times and helped me every step of the way. I am very excited for this opportunity because most of what I do is for others and I would not hesitate at the chance to be pampered and polished. Thank you so much and I appreciate the chance.
My name is Angela. I am a 36 year old woman recently married in 2017 & a recent 1st time mom. I have been pregnant most of 2018 as early this year I had a miscarriage with our 1st child but then shortly became pregnant again. Being pregnant nearly all of 2018 was trying on my body & self confidence but such a blessing from God. A blessing because both my husband & I did not believe we could have children but on November 2nd after a 28 and a half hour labor - I gave birth to our 11 pound 3 ounce son.
I NEED this ultimate makeover as my former days of being known for my fashion sense have now become days where wearing a nursing gown & grandma style robe is the norm and where a simple shower & brushed hair is things that I look forward to! I would like this chance to "feel beautiful" again as I navigate this beautiful new life as a wife & mom.
Hi here is my story
I’m a 55 year old who has raised three children and have been raising three more of my grandchildren in which I adopted when they were 7 mos now 8, 2 years now 10 and 5 now 13. My life has been dedicated to all of them and my husband who was away most of my 31 years of marriage because of military deployments. I feel like a older women because I’m just so warn out. How ever it’s always about them and never about me don’t get me wrong I probably wouldn’t be here right now if it wasn’t for them. See I was given a life expectancy of 5-7 years because
I have a incurable untreatable illness. I was given this diagnosis a few months before receiving these babies. I had to fight get up and be there for them every day. I succeeded that time frame and have past it by 3 years. I know that being the person I am today taking care of them I will be rewarded but it would be nice to feel important again. I don’t see a beautiful person when I look in mirror a beautiful soul on inside but outside is so neglected.
This would mean so much to me to be a part of this makeover and to show that I can make time for me. Only God knows my plans but for now I’m grateful to be here and able to do the things I can with my kids. And if I’m not chosen it’s ok I am just grateful that I’m still able to be a part of their lives.
After more than 30 years as teacher-leader developing public high school students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) areas I retired and relocated from South Florida to take care of our mother in the final stages of her fruitful life. While serving as a care-taker for our mother, I simultaneously renovated my South Florida home of 22 years and successfully completed my doctoral studies, receiving my degree in Organizational Leadership with a specialization in Human Resources Development and Training from Nova Southeastern University in 2017. Currently, I am restoring our parents’ home which was our mother’s wish.
As I enter the next phase of the journey, my objective is to use my experiences to obtain a capacity building position which maximizes my leadership, problem solving, and team-building skill-sets in a progressive organization to improve performance metrics. A makeover would further enrich the transition into my “Second Act,” can’t wait to see what happens next!
My name is Natasha, wife and mother of two boys 8 and 9. About 8 years ago I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE. My life as I knew it was over. I was no longer able to do the simple things that I once enjoyed. The disease wreaked complete havoc and chaos on my body. I gained close to 100 lbs. due to steroids and other side effects from prescription drugs used to keep me alive. In 2016 I made a decision to seek holistic healings and regain my body back. By the end of 2017, I tested negative for SLE and have been for 1 year now. I also have dropped close to 100 lbs.
In November of this year, I miscarried due to a condition called Antiphospholipid syndrome, which is a blood clotting disease that mimics some traits of Lupus. Through it all I still remain positive and remind myself that this is a daily journey and I am conquering life one day at a time.
My name is Pamela Fayson. I am 41 years old. I have 2 children ages 8 and 12. I am a single mom and work a full time job. I rarely if ever do anything for myself as the kids and work take most of my time. Since having my children later in life I am often asked if the kids are my grandchildren when I am out shopping with them. At church I have been handed an invitation for the 55+ ladies group due to my grey hair. I feel like I really need this makeover to change to match age that I am and feel. I would really love the help and appreciate the chance to do something for myself.
