Westside nonprofit that serves needy
seeking Christmas toy donations

Posted on December 4, 2012

In 2011, Pastor Joe Howell of SafeHouse of Jacksonville Outreach Ministry took to the roof of the nonprofit, located along Interstate 10, to draw attention to the nonprofit's 11th annual Christmas toy giveaway.

He's not staging a rooftop repeat this year for the 12th party, but is seeking donations of new, unwrapped toys, wrapping paper and tape for the Dec. 22 party.

Toys should be dropped off at the nonprofit's headquarters, 540 Owen Ave., a few blocks from McDuff Avenue, before Dec. 21. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday

Year round, SafeHouse provides food and clothing to underprivileged families on the Westside. The nonprofit was founded in 2001 by Howell and his Lottie when they began giving out meals and ministering to people on the streets.
